1st Great Western Timetable.

I am planning a journey from Paddington to Penzance on Mon 22nd April 2013.Great Western and East Coast booking engines give me options of tickets for a train leaving Paddington at 09.30 arriving Penzance at 15.11 however looking at GW timetable which is valid until May there is no such departure from Paddington. The nearest being a 10.06 departure arriving at Penzance at the same time 15.11. Is anyone able to explain this as I am a little confused not wishing to book a "Ghost Train. Thankyou.

Does the East Coast site suggest changing somewhere en route? The booking engines do this if there is a quicker journey available.

That's a train to Bristol Temple Meads. You'll probably find it involves a change there for a service to Penzance.

But the 1511 arrival time into Penzance as advertised is the 1006 FGW service from Paddington, calling at Reading, then fast to Exeter.

Looks like the 1006 is combined with the Bristol Temple Meads service (1C08) at 0930.

Correct, there is midweek engineering works between Castle Cary and Taunton that week.

Thanks for the quick replies .Both the East Coast and GW search engines give the 09.30 departure as a through service to Penzance with no changes and not via Bristol.

Thats because publically this is exactly what it is. The train itself is diverted via Bristol Temple Meads (And hence calls at no stations between Reading and Taunton) but is not advertised as calling at Temple Meads.

And it looks like the regular 0930 Bristol is off as a result.

There is however an xx33 departure after all the xx30 departures that are not calling at Bristol and stations on route. 0933, 1133, 1333, 1533, though this does vary as you get into the evening peak.

The even departure times (0830, 1030, 1230, 1430) are running as normal to Bristol but then extended to the Westcountry.
