1st Generation DMUs

Nice shot of Tonbridge - brings back memories of trips to visit my gran there at around the time - usually by VEP. (Incidentally she used to be the platform announcer there during WW2)

My only memory of a 1st gen DMU is of Daisy from Thomas the Tank Engine

110s with two engines per vehicle. Built for hilly pennine work so could really do a bit on the level.
And if you got one with a power trailer(middle car) you knew you wouldn`t be late home.

Does anyone know why modern units don't have the windows for passengers to see out the front like the old dmu's had? Is there any technical reason for it, or maybe something to do with privacy for the drivers? I'd love to see them come back...

The only ones I really remember are the 101s. They ran up until 2003 I think. And I got my hand trapped in the door of one once...bad times but looking back on it makes me laugh lol

110s never had power trailers, only powered intermidiate cars were the 124,s. A 3 car powered 110 would requie an aditional DMC or DMBS inserted.
