As said though. It really is a job done on the cheap. It slipped tremendously through Alfreton station and nearly did the same at Langley Mill with only one carriage on the platform. We then had a problem with the doors opening at Nottingham

Slipping has nothing to do with a units interior or indeed performance. The engine and brakes will have exactly the same specification.

I am quite surprised at it slipping IN to platforms though...

Heard on another forum that six EMT 158's failed in one day alone with 153's acting has replacements. Truly shocking reliability:roll:

Which is NOT down to poor managment. It's not their fault they ended up with those 158's!

The wessex ones even look awful on the outside! Had a Central Trains 158 for 2 and a half hours yesterday, I find it quite ironic that it was so so much less comfy and was so much more cold than the railtour I'd got off provided by 2 diesels built in the 60s along with 1950s/1960s coaches

The stock has nothing to do with it, Mk1s can be nice and cosy on even the coldest days with steam heat/ETH locos on the front....or in our case, NB locos with a genny van...

Saw it at Stockport today, with brand new paintjob. The seats look nice and comfy with beefy headrests. The ex CT unit on the front of the train was very empty - most people having skimmied into the rear unit for a more comfortable journey!

The comfort of a seat is entirely subjective. Everybody seems to love the seats on the ex-Midland Mainline HSTs, but I find it very difficult to get comortable on them. Maybe it's because I'm quite tall (6'4") and bulky, I find Meridians most comfortable. All of the seats I've found on 158s are actually okay (back support wise), but the padding on the seat has gone on more than half of them.

It was up and down on the Liverpool-Sheffield on th esame digram for about awek and now i think it has gone on to the Chesterfiled Digrams.
It had faults on one of its couplings as was coupled to 158852 for the whole week.

I traveld on it from Liverpool to Manchester freqently whilst it was up here and found it very comfortable indeed the leg room is far better than with the STD 158 seats.

They real have done a good job but one thing i do find thogh is that being a reduction in table seats people tend to be wandering up and down looking for one when all table seats are ocupied even if only one person is sitting there.

I do think that prehaps they should have done away with all of th etable seats as threre seems to be too much fuss about them.

Also i find that they don't seem to be looking affter it very well so far as it didn't appear to have been cleaned just rubish taken away.

I fear that it may end up in the same state as the SWT units on loan to EMT which are in a real mess and a disgrace and don't thik SWT are going to be very happy when they are returned.

the SWT units are spanking clean hock: I don't possibly see how the legroom could be better as there are 10 extra seats per vehicle :? just my thoughts...

Yes the Leg room is exerlent and far better than BR 158 Seats and i was on 158882 last night and it was minging to say the least.

The extra seats come from the removal of some tables and shortening of luggage racks plus there are three Jump Seats in the Bike Space and one Jump Seat in the Wheel Chair Space.

Yeh i would seem to agree there being a Friday night they may need four coaches on the 21.35 LLST-NOT and as there are still mior faults on it they may take it in for them to be done.

Minor Faults are :-

*PA Doesent work proerley -chopy-

*Lights around the internal door buttons not lighting up

There was something else but cannot think of it but one of the gaurds did say they had been reproted and one gaurd told me it had been back to Delta Rail three times since it was relased and before it entered service.
