1st class travelcard question

I have noticed that there are 1st class outboundary Travelcard fares priced from various stations (such as Iver) where there is no first class service into London. These are probably throw backs to when 1st was available, but got me wondering. Would a 1st outboundary allow unlimited travel in 1st within the zones (on Thameslink, Southern and any others within the zones with 1st)? The first provision on these services is hardly worth the cost anyway, so more hypothetical than anything.

Yes you can use 1st class, where available, within Zones 1 - 6 (or 9 if you've got one which is also available at Zone 9). Years and years ago a few of us did a 1st class Travelcard bash (can't remember the ticket used now) and did things like visiting the GWR lounge at Paddington, the Greater Anglia lounge at Liverpool Street, having a ride on a Mk3s between there are Stratford, a run on the Stansted Express, and probably some other odds and ends.

I mean for a normal person it really isn't going to be worthwhile if there isn't first class available on your main journey into London (like Iver) but for the enthusiast there was fun to be had!

Am I correct in thinking they are the only First Class lounges that can be used by a Zone 1 to 6 Travelcard? The others (Euston and King's Cross) can't be used as those operators don't run services within the zones.

Interesting-definitely some enthusiast possibilities (might consider doing one some time, definitely some novelty value in addition to the “on paper” benefits available). Also, perhaps counts as another 1st class ranger for the recent thread…
