1S24 1600 King's Cross - Edinburgh hit a "large animal" (22/12)

Not yet known how long the delay will be, but I am currently on a train that has hit a "large animal" just south of Doncaster, and they aren't sure yet if the train will be able to move.

The crew are checking all customers to see if anyone would require assistance if we have to evacuate, but are hopeful that it won't come to that.

So if anyone is travelling northbound on the East Coast main line this evening, just be aware there may be delays...

Edit: after about 23 mins of being stopped, we are on the move again, and the train will be checked by Hitachi at Doncaster (at least they shouldn't have too far to travel to get there!)

Still a "good service" on the LNER site and no mention of problems on NRE.

They have Hitachi’s Fitters based on platform 8.
Most likely hit a deer and will need the front valance removing.

That is certainly the smoothest bit of disruption handling I've seen on the East coast for a long time. No doubt other examples are available that I've not come across, but still. Certainly couldn't have happened at a worse time, my mate Calum is currently on the 1530 from the cross to Edinburgh which he reports as rather well loaded even in first

Yes, ECML is - for obvious reasons - busy today. I came back down to Yorkshire on 1E12 (11:00 EDB-KGX) and it was packed. Practically no seats even in First.

I take it there was no damage to the train. Thankfully, the location where your train hit the animal was close to the Doncaster Carr depot, so I expect it was easy for the technical team to remove the debris from the animal and give the train the "OK" to proceed.

A Hitachi fitter based at Doncaster station attended the train.
Doncaster Carr depot staff do not leave the depot to attend to trains.

Although there has been one or two exceptions when there has been really serious issues and train stranded on mainline for nearly 24 hours south of Doncaster
