1B74 BHM-EUS via Stafford?

Not sure if this is the right place for this or indeed if it is anything out of the ordinary for you regulars but I was at Stafford yesterday when this service made an unscheduled visit. It arrived northbound into P6, remained there whilst the driver changed cabs and then left southbound.

The information screens on the doors stated the next stop would be Birmingham International but according to RTT (http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/C70371/2018/06/25/advanced) there was no report there nor at Coventry - the first report after leaving New Street was at Rugby Trent Valley - and there is no mention of the unscheduled visit to Stafford on there.

I know there were problems in the West Midlands area yesterday but thought that was between Stafford and Wolverhampton so was wondering what is likely to have caused this movement?

Ah right, it was a new one for me and considering the lack of new locos/units I got to see yesterday it was a little bit of something different.

Looking at the timings, I would guess it made a special call at Rugby (it lost 6 minutes in a an area expected to travel within a minute)

This route was used over the most recent May Bank Holiday due to re-signalling work around Stechford, so used on a planned basis too.
