I don’t know if this is on any other thread, but apparently Bournemouth council will not be reintroducing deckchairs this year ‘because of the Covid risk, but also because they could be used as weapons’. Source Radio 5 Live. You couldn’t make this up.
As a resident of "near Bournemouth" I can say the real reason will be the latter. As soon as the families go home at the weekend, the fighting starts.

Actually they don't always wait for the families to go. We witnessed a couple of winos beating the stuffing out of each other at 2 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon by the seafront.

Compliance on the Underground seemed low today; the carriage that had the highest proportion of compliance I saw was the Piccadilly line from Kings + to Holborn, in my carriage were 16 customers, 4 completely unmasked and two below nose.

Compliance seems to drop off towards the ends of the lines, but other than that I still haven’t been able to spot any pattern.

I was also on the Bakerloo line at Elephant & Castle, a BTP officer and two staff members all of whom were unmasked, and probably about half of the customers.

On public transport in London I am finding face covering wearing to be quite high. I would have thought people wold be fed up of wearing the things by now but sadly it seems not.

I don't feel any more or less safe by not wearing a face covering and others wearing one doesn't make me feel any safer either.

From my 2 visits to England since scrapping of restrictions, face coverings seem to vary and they haven’t disappeared as some people here think. Last Wednesday i spent a day on Class 321s up the GEML, mask wearing varied heavily, one train would have a 70/20 mask complaince where the next would have a 60/40 not wearing masks. Today The 1900 LNER service from Edinburgh to Doncaster saw minimal mask wearing off Edinburgh, maybe about 5 people in a 3/4 full carriage. After leaving newcastle other than 1 person who had theirs on since Edinburgh masks were completely void. The 2223 Adwick to Sheffiled im on just now has if i count correctly 4 people in an entire Class 158 wearing masks. It seems during the day mask wearing is a lot higher and certain areas, ages, time of days shows different levels of mask wearing

Ardwick? But anyway, please finish your observations, as this is interesting.

I for one will always wear one on the tube, not because of viruses specifically but because of the filthy air, especially in the deep tunnels. I don't understand why people want to breathe that in without at least some kind of filter between it and your mouth/nose. You can see how dirty it is just sanding at any deep tube station. It is common sense to me to keep as much of that filth out of my lungs as possible and I wear masks with filters and multiple layers. I await the people questioning me and coming up with silly comparisons, but it's my choice.

Do what you want, but the more harmful particulates are plenty small enough to go a lot of the face coverings people are wearing. Personally I've never found the air on the tube to be a particular problem for the time I'm on it, while the same amount of time in a mask has reduced me to a gibbering wreck.

The sooner we can all get back to doing what we like and just ignoring each other the better.

Your choice as long as you don’t judge someone for not wearing one, as you say it’s their choice.

But you need to change the mask after twenty minutes if your on the tube any longer than that.

Boris Johnson was seen in M&S without a mask this weekend. From the picture outside the shop it looks as if it’s the one above Green Park station.

More concerningly however it looks as if he forgot his re-usable bag.

First inside visit to a busy National Trust house (Petworth) for a while yesterday. All reassuringly normal - notice at door saying "personal choice if you wear a mask or not". I would say 25% of visitors were, 75% were not. Staff almost all were, so I guess had been told to.

I visited several car showrooms (in England) last week, of various brands and ownerships, and all were mandating masks ("no mask, no entry").
The main change in Wales is that seating in restaurants is now unrestricted, and track and trace has been dumped.
Social distancing is down to 1m rather then 2m, though most venues haven't changed signage.
Masks still required in retail/hospitality/transport however.

Meanwhile, daily UK case numbers are rising inexorably past the 30000 mark, and the typical 7-day rate across much of England and Wales is about 300.
It's not over.

Business must be good if they can afford to turn people away.

Where is this?

Sounds like fear mongering.

I went on a museum tour today, surprisingly was the only one in the group not wearing a mask, despite the guide making it clear they were voluntary. To be fair I didn’t notice any dirty looks.

By contrast on trains it seems to be continuing to fall. We went on four trains today, none particularly heavily loaded, and mask use was below 50%.

On one of my trains I heard what I thought was the best TM mask announcement I’ve yet encountered for the current situation:

“wearing a mask is no longer legally required, nor is it still mandatory on our services, but it is still recommended in crowded areas if you’re able to do so”.

No judgment, no passive aggressive nonsense, just does the necessary.

The numbers (UK and local) are facts - look at the PHE/PHW stats and charts.

We might as well get used to cases and deaths from this disease! It isn’t going anywhere and most of the population is vaccinated, so things aren’t ever going to get any better than they are now. Time to get back to normal (including in Wales and Scotland).

We just need to accept that thousands of Covid deaths will join the regular annual tally of flu deaths.

I did not realise you were rereferring to Wales and i also did nor realise that Wales were continuing with these ridiculous rules.

It is the adding on of "its not over" that sounds like fear mongering.

That's my opinion.
I'm on the side of Welsh caution, like most of the population.

It’ll never be over, this is what people need to understand Covid is here forever, Australia and New Zealand will soon find that out.

They are so poor at the vaccination side of things though. Only 25% I think I read earlier. Onwards & upwards here :)

Compliance on the Underground seemed very low today. Wonder for how long Mr Khan will insist TfL perseveres with this charade? He can't be that insulated from reality to see that a considerable number of customers using LU and buses are not complying with his diktat.

Why doesn’t he just use it as a request like other operators now rather than as an order? People are tired of it all & as so relaxed in other settings are not going to take his stance seriously.

My experience of the TfL bus to Heathrow, no one was wearing masks earlier this week

Same with TfL rail from West Drayton

I went to a different church this morning and, out of approximately 75-100 people in the service, I was the only one without a mask. I also had to sign in and put all my personal details on a sheet that could be read by anyone else. Not sure if it was the lack of a mask, or some other reason, but nobody else sat in the same row as I did!

I haven't been impressed by the slow pace of change at churches. Considering that the church itself was formed out of rule breaking and non-compliance, it really is rather disappointing.
