I have had a look but I have a lack of trust in some of these sites such as eBay and would prefer online documents.

Online documents are my preferred method. The reasons for this research are to look at the running of non-Scotrail services north of Edinburgh around the time of privatisation, to see the shambles that was Operation Princess even though it (briefly) significantly increased the number of services from north of Edinburgh to the north of England and to prove that the 10:00 GNER departure from London continued to Glasgow as well to check other minor changes made between 1996 & 2007 during the GNER franchise.

another option is to look in bric a brac shops at preserved railways as they sometimes have old timetables for sale fairly cheaply from the era. I usually used to get a Nat Rail Timetable (we had one at work to refer to if needed!) but I tended not to keep them at the time - and they can fill up bookshelves fast!

I tried that and I found something for 2004 but I would like earlier than that. I would particularly like a highland mainline timetable from 1999 to see if a 170 was significantly quicker than a 158 as it is claimed on my Video 125 Highland Mainline Drivers Eye View that the 170 cut 28 minutes from the previous fastest Inverness to Edinburgh journey time set by the 158.

I have to say I don’t go to preserved railways that often but if I’m at one next summer (when I pray life is a lot better) then I will ask.

You can certainly get ScotRail 2003-2005 by using the Wayback Machine, but no earlier due to the way the PDFs were linked in 2002 and no online PDFs on the ScotRail website any earlier.

It would be nice to know the calling points and times of the Devon Scot around the time of privatisation. Scotland-Plymouth worth doing direct back in the days of regular Cross Country HST usage but not now with Voyagers.

I don't have the '99 TT but have the summer '98 one if that is of any use. I can look at the GNER services later if there is any specific data you'd like to know.

I tried that and I found something for 2004 but I would like earlier than that. The fastest I can see in the summer '98 TT is 3h 24 mins from Inverness to Edinburgh via Perth and Kirkcaldy, dep Inverness 10:35 arr Edinburgh 13:59. For comparison the Chieftan left Inverness at 07:55 and arr Edinburgh at 11:21 so 3 h 26 mins via Perth and Stirling. Most if not all of the SR stuff went via Kirkcaldy to/from Edinburgh. GNER via Stirling .

I believe the Manchester diversion happened in the 1998 timetable changes that squeezed a bit more out of the VXC fleet. Of course, what is left of the 'Devon Scot' now goes via the East Coast and Leeds.

You need to extract the files from the DPS site, they are all in compressed form to save memory

Which is actually a reversion to what BR did in 1985, the Flying Scotsman was changed from the 1000 off KGX in 1984 to the 1030 departure in 1985 and the 1000 then terminated at Edinburgh instead of running through to Aberdeen.

I would be very grateful if you could do that thank you. On the Flying Scotsman GNER drivers eye view the 10:00 does continue to Glasgow even though I knew when I purchase it that it had stopped going to Glasgow and terminated at Edinburgh.

If you are on a PC or laptop then when you've downloaded the file right-click on it and select "extract all" from the drop down menu and then open the extracted file.

If on mobile it would depend on the operating system, not all have the capability installed and you may need to download something like 7-zip to be able to extract the files which is what I do on my phone.

Thank you, this is greatly appreciated. If only Cross Country had kept HST's instead of punting them for voyagers that are frankly not great. Its also a shame HST's haven't operated over shap for nearly 2 decades. The only HST operation over Beattock being East Coast Diversions every autumn right through until withdrawal in 2019.

I believe the Manchester diversion happened in the 1998 timetable changes that squeezed a bit more out of the VXC fleet.
