Does anyone know what the maximum permitted 'light engine' speeds for:

Class A4
Class 9F
Class 7

and

Sulzer Type 2 (aka Class 25)
Brush Type 2 (aka Class 31)
English Electric Type 3 (aka Class 37)
Brush Type 4 (aka Class 47)

were during the early 1960s?

Currently I've got noted down 55mph for the steam locos and 75mph for the diesels, but I can't recall where I got that from.

Longstanding story that a new GWR Saint 29xx 4-6-0, light engine, in the early 1900s, was run up to 120 mph, by both stopwatch of the inspector and signalbox passing times, on a test run from Stoke Gifford back to Swindon on the Badminton line.

From NER Sectional Appendix, 1960:

Steam:
55 mph: Passenger & mixed traffic tender locos (chimney leading)
45 mph: Ditto, running tender leading.
45 mph: Passenger & mixed traffic tank locos.
35 mph: Freight tender locomotives
20 mph: Freight tank locomotives.

65 mph: Diesel & electric locos (except for any locos with lower maximum limit)

When 2 or more locos are coupled together, the speed must not exceed the limit for the loco with the most severe restriction.
