I am sat looking at 195111 andi appears to have a retractable mini snow plough fitted - is the permanent fitting of mini snowploughs now a standard requirement on new MU's?

Is it definately retractable? It's most likely just a cow catcher, designed to stop anything going under the train and damaging any equipment.

Seems to be far too high in retracted position around 1 foot above track level, but appears to be hinged as if it may drop lower?

It's an obstacle deflector. It isn't retractable. What look like bearings are just part of the energy absorption characteristics of the design.
