Was at Preston yesterday evening and saw my first Northern 195 in service and heading to Windermere. Looked rather smart and was looking forward to getting aboard to see just what it was like.. However turns out it wasn't going to stop in Lancaster which was a bit of a surprise. Never known a Preston-Windermere that didn't stop at all stations on route. Anyone know why such a stopping pattern?

Seems to be a franchise requirement. There is a lot of discussion on this thread on the services:-

www.railforums.co.uk/threads/northern-timetable-changes-may-2019.176826/page-28

It is a longish thread so it may be preferable to start from the later pages, i.e. page 28 perhaps or you might like to go back further.

It has been much under discussion. The most likely answer is that the stop was sacrificed when the 100mph class 185s were withdrawn and replaced by 75mph sprinters working the route. This decision impacted the timetable, and this was the solution.

Nearly got caught out by this by taking the train from Winderemere to Lancaster to change to Glasgow VT to save wait at Oxenholme . I did see the 158 pass through Lancaster !
