I've heard it is a write-off and TPE are planning for emergency permission to replace all services between Carlisle and Edinburgh with coaches to cope with the shortage.

I still believe the 185s are decent units and shouldn't end up on a scrap heap! I know that's a joke, but still...

They are decent units, just used on the wrong type of duties on some lines. A four coach 185 would be fine for most of what TPE do (ignoring Scotland, which they will lose in a few years), I reckon I'd take one over a 170/ 175 (assuming same chance of a seat etc)

I quite like 175s, but 185s are more suited to TransPennine duties because of the door layout and wide circulation spaces.

But there is nothing like an original 158 seat to have a snooze in

I've always thought the first class seating on a 185 was rather impressive. The 185 standard class seating is upright, which some people like and some don't. It's not really the fault of the train. Never noticed the air con that much.

loving the coach replacement jokes guys! Think my main gripe with these units is the lack of a 4th coach meaming crouding on every trip i've ever made on any run including south TPE. in all seriusness, this is going to give them a major headake and it wil be intresting to see how they handle it.
