You must be one of a few, if not the only one on these forums to say that

Why travel on a light and airy HST when you can travel in a smelly sardine can instead?

Indeed! I never thought I'd see the day when someone on here said they would prefer to ride on a smelly, overcrowded Voyager than an XC HST!

(Although he didn't actually say that, it is definitely the implication)

It's normally an HST - can't recall ever seeing it not one.
Only on Saturdays, though in the fortnight leading up to Christmas it was one every day. I think it may go HST Mon - Fri during the summer months as well.

It does, and on a Friday at the moment in the winter.

I'm not sure what is really. I went on a HST from Bristol Temple Meads to Bristol Parkway and I just found that the seats were quite uncomfortable and didn't have much leg room. But also I travel on HSTs all the time between Cardiff and Bristol Parkway so that's why Voyagers are different. I think they're quite stylish. If they didn't smell and had two or thre more coaches then they'd be an excellent unit.

Anyway, despite my request, I never caught a train yesterday after all! But tonight I'm on the 1822 from Exeter to Bristol, which I believe is a Voyager.

Yep, no HSTs south of Birmingham on Sundays at the moment.

Can't believe you find HST's not nice!

But then again, I don't see any problems with voyagers. Whats wrong with them? I'm 6ft2 and don't have a problem with the voyager seat pitch. They are fun to ride on, fast and have great acceleration.

The HSTs have no less legroom than the Voyagers.

I think it would depend on how tall you are. I always try and reserve F16 on Voyagers as they have extra room!

On the XC HST I was on a few weeks back, I had to sit at an angle and effectively take up two seats; luckily the train was almost empty so it wasn't a problem.

I think because where I live in Cardiff we have HSTs half hourly to London so I'm sometimes bored of them, plus I absolute despise the doors on them (they are so impractical - especially if you have loads of luggage; ceratinly not a feature I would expect on trains in this day and age). However, because Cardiff only has one Voyager working a day, I think it makes it more interesting! It's a shame it runs quite late (2102 arrival in Cardiff); it'd be great if there were more Nottinghams booked for some!

Indeed so. I think they're absolutely excellent units.
