Does any one know if there is a class 180 Adelante at Oxley Depot yet

Yes, two sets moved there from Old Oak Common last month.

There are 3 sets in there at the moment (well there was last monday).

One by the wash road & two around the back on the downside. Didnt get the number of the only one I see easily by the wash road.

There are four 180's at Oxley at the moment, 103, 107, 112 and 114. They are in warm store and periodically visit the shed for exams.

I believe 180's are realeased by FGW as refurbed HST sets are realesed back from Derby Litchurch lane and Ilford, each set can then have some powercars glued on and replace a 180 diagram.

It was 'confirmed' in press releases at the back end of 2007. I heard that 2 will be sent to Hull Trains, with kitchens being fitted (but I'm not sure where this is being done).

In theory when all sets are formed:

OCxx are High Density (some buffets)
LAxx are low density with buffet

There are a few HD sets WITH a buffet based at Laira, there's a complete list of FGW HST sets in the latest edition of Railway Magazine IIRC. I'll try & find it & let you know.

HT have confirmed in 'Pioneer' that they are taking 2x 180's which will be refurbished and fitted with kitchens, with FC being moved into a driving car. The 'BBQd' 180 is unlikely to be leased at this time, but there is some well founded rumours in Wales (and on otehr Rail fora) that the Welsh Assembly have paid for some 180's for the Holyhead routes, allowing them to cascade 175's onto 158 routes and 158's onto their 150 routes, with the 150 going to FGW to help with the 14x problem. FGW would also be keeping 2? 180s for the Cotswold lines.

I guess the Welsh and FGW units could have common maintenance at SPM in Bristol, but no one seems to have worked out if the HT ones will be maintained at OOC, Longsight or Oxley or go to Crofton with the 222's?

What a waste of a good train if they end up on Holyhead-Cardiff's!

South Wales-Manchester would be a more justified route, but why put them on a service which doesn't get that busy from Shrewsbury onwards and rarely goes over 90 mph max line speed?

The Welsh Assembly are putting PR over practicalities - "look at this big smart train linking the capital with North Wales" while Manchester-bound passengers are being crammed into a 2/3-car 175.

I would put the 180s on Manchester-Milford Haven's so to replace all the 175/0s currently deployed on the route and then put the spare 175/0s on the Cardiff-Holyhead's currently worked by 158s. So basically all Manchester 5-6 hour journeys have at least 3 coaches and all of the Holyhead's are covered by a a mix of 2/3-car 175s.

Well, to be honest, I can't see this deadline being met. Sometime during April or May would seem more likely to me.

Interestingly., in the latest RAIL, Ian Yeowart wants the 180s for the Grand Union services to Bradford Interchange from London Kings Cross.

I thought they were getting Polaris trains? Or are these just to get a service going in the near future?

Polarois trains don;t arrive until 2009 or 2010, for the GC services. I guess the GC HST could then move to GU....
