I have an 18+ Oyster photo card because i'm on placement year, I work in Farringdon and live near Mill Hill Broadway train station, Would a zone 1-4 travel card be valid on thameslink for this journey? If not what would be the cheapest fare options? I have to travel in peak times :(

A season ticket between Mill Hill Broadway and London Thameslink would be slightly cheaper (£31.10 for a 7-day season).

For a saving of £0.70/week that's not worth it

It's actually £1.10/week. For a student that might be important, but one extra journey during the week away from the Thameslink line would wipe out the savings.
