Yes, and only a small proportion of those none 185 Barrow/Cumbrian Coast local services are 142's and that is only a very recent phenomena.

So...

"Yes but that's just one line in a county where most local services are operated by Pacers."

...is a complete fabrication.

The vast majority of local services are still 15x's on Preston/Lancaster-Barrow, the Cumbrian Coast, the Windermere line and the S&C.

So, as I said; Cumbria still comes off very nicely indeed compared to the rest of the North.

Does it?

Based on your definition of 'local' most local services in West Yorkshire are operated by 158s, 185s or 333s. Considering you included Manchester Airport to Scotland as a local service we could even consider EC and XC services which stop at Wakefield to be local. Just because your local station of Batley is mainly served by Pacers doesn't mean it's any better in Cumbria than West Yorkshire.

I see this thread had deviated from the Mid-Cheshire Line to a debate on the Cumbrian Coast. This is further still away from Llandudno.

Yes it does. You're changing the subject.

In Cumbria TPE offer a local service. Hence why they stop so much between Lancaster and Barrow and on the Windermere line. These trains then run semi-fast south of Carnforth. It is possible for one train to cater for multiple markets. On the WCML, they still form an important link within Cumbria, but obviously run faster.

You're clearly just being facetious now, but I'll respond anyway.

1) I've not boarded a train at Batley for about 4 years. I always use Dewsbury for TPE or Leeds for Northern services.
2) I have no gripes about pacers serving Batley because a) I don't use them b) they're declining in number now anyway in favour of 150's or 158's c) they tend to be 143's/144's which are better than 142's and d) they're actually quite suited to the line anyway.
3) I've lived in both Cumbria and Lancashire in the last 6 years, using both TPE and Northern frequently so consider myself qualified to say that Cumbria is by far the best off in terms of rail travel out of the 3 counties I have experience of.

This is my last post on the subject. You are wrong about pacers in Cumbria and devoid of any meaningful understanding of Northern/TPE's networks, I won't waste my time any longer.

This thread is about Llandudno. Posters have been pointing this out but people still keep going to other parts of the country and talking about other matters nearly all of which are elsewhere on the Forum.

I responded to an ill-informed comparison between Wales and Cumbria.

Getting back on track, I like 175's...

Arent we allowed to have an opinion on these forums or something, no need for everyone to jump down my throat because I dared to ask could a 150 run a few shuttles between Llandudno and the juntion. I never said 150s should run to Manchester I was simply asking could a 150 cover a shuttle so the 175s could be concentrated on the faster long distance services.

All three responses, each pointing out that the 'shuttle' doesn't operate in isolation but that it's instead covered by the units that'd otherwise have a long layover at Llandudno, seem perfectly reasonable to me. No, you didn't suggest that a 150 should work through to Manchester - but that'd be inevitable (or a similarly unsuitable destination) if a 175 was swapped for a 150, as no diagram covers solely the Llandudno - Junction shuttles.

I don't really see how three people making the effort to give you a detailed and prompt answer to your question can be seen as "everyone jumping down your throat"

Comments like "as had already been said" or "as mentioned before" made me feel like they were jumping down my throat and that I should not be asking questions. But if you think differently of course thats up to you as you are entitled to your opinion the same as everyone else here.

Fair enough, but i was simply suggesting could it be a possible for ATW to rejuggle things with their diagrams so a 175 3 car wasnt stuck on the shuttles and used on busier diagrams. If this isnt possible then fair enough it was only something I was discussing.

There is, however, a connection between Cumbria and Wales when it comes to rolling stock in that the 175s were ordered for regional services in the North West and North Wales. The franchise and rolling stock reorganisation has meant that ATW now have the entire 175 fleet. Rolling stock reorganisation generally results in some short services getting what is really medium/long distance stock while medium/long distance services can be stuck with short distance stock.
