Was stood in Edinburgh W station waiting for my 1730 return back home tonight, and across the platform a EWS 6-car diesel set pulled up to run the service in the thread title.

Are ScotRail hiring rolling stock from EWS? Or is this a one-off? Whilst coming back from North Queensferry (to Edinburgh) yesterday, the train was taken out of service early at Waverly (instead of running to Newcraighall) due to an engine failure, could it have been brought in to replace this? Both are Fife Circle line routes.

I take it this was a loco-hauled set. If so, SR have a few doing peak trains around the Fife Circle, and FGW have them too on Cardiff Central-Taunton services.

It's the Fife Circle LHCS sets, there are two trains which both run two trips a day during the week, once in the morning and once in the evening.
One set runs the 07:29 Glenrothes-Edinburgh and the 17:21 Edinburgh-Cardenden.
The other runs the 06:32 and 17:08 Edinburgh-Edinburgh services via the Fife Circle.

It doesnt run in service to Newcraighall.

No, I was talking about a service I was on at Thursday afternoon back from N Queensferry which was terminated at Waverly instead of running to Newcraighall. Just thought the EWS train might have been brought in as replacement the day after.

Good speedy responses though. Cheers all!
