Morning all, on the GatEx into Victoria now and I've just seen a southern 2 car 171 on the down slow through Thornton Heath. Anyone know where it was from and what it was doing ? Thanks :)

Often see units returning to Selhurst from London Bridge via a more convoluted route than normal so that paths on the Brighton Main Line aren't taken up - so would be routed London Bridge to Peckham Rye, Tulse Hill, Streatham, Streatham Common then through Thornton Heath to Selhurst.

Hope this helps!

Yes, what David said. It's a commonly used route for units (not just 171s) going back to Selhurst after the morning peak. I think there's also a couple of morning peak diagrams that include ECS from London Bridge back to Selhurst via Tulse Hill, then into the depot, onto the departure road up to the gullet, into Norwood Jct and back in passenger service up to London Bridge again.

I would imagine that was an Eastbourne driver which normally take out the 171's.

The thumpers always took that route ECS so it isn't anything new
