6X27 Sellafield to Barrow Docks failed at Silecroft this morning https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:R16459/2024-06-17/detailed

Nothern services on the Cumbrian Coast are currently being terminated at Millom. Was gong to travel to Parton beach today, but did not due to disruption

Also reported in Northwest Mail article:

Broken down train between Millom and Bootle

According to the Northern Assist Twitter account, the broken down train is located between Millom and Bootle.

In response to a commuter query, Northern Assist further detailed that is broken down freight train blocking the line at Silecroft that is causing disruption.

Does anyone have any more details?

Thanks

Apparently a freight train conveying nuclear chemicals has suffered a mechanical fault and it's thought the affected wagon is somehow out of gauge, as well as having a brake fault.

Everything cancelled between Whitehaven and Barrow at the moment according to National Rail, maybe a Millom shuttle to Barrow and back will be put on.

I read elsewhere that 8 wheel skates were needed. Someone give the RAC a call, there's a few flat tyres need changing at Sellafield tonight.

The video on Facebook ("Cumbrian Coast Railways" group IIRC) showed the train moving with only 1 axle on skates, so <8 (is it a skate per axle or per wheel?)

One wheelskate supports one axle. It’s a common misunderstanding, even within the rail industry, possibly because the name suggests it only supports a single wheel.
