168017 Damaged at Northolt Park

A Birmingham bound train was hit by an object in the Northolt Park area at about 14:50hrs. The windscreen was shattered and the train was taken out of service at West Ruislip and returned towards Wembley depot. The following 14:39 High Wycombe service picked up all passengers who then had to change at HWY. Luckily it was not the driver's window. It may have been an object thrown by vandals though this was not clear from announcements.

Shattered windscreen is most likely a yob throwing things. The screens are pretty tough and you'd need quite a heavy collision with something to smash it; in which case there would likely be wider damage. A small-ish object aimed straight at it will sometimes go through though. Sadly this is a regular occurence.

It looked like a small object had hit the window. I managed to get a look as we passed at West Ruislip. Rotten luck for those on the train as they may have had to stand all the way to Brum as well as suffering the delay.

Lets not jump to conclusions, it could always be a piece of ballast that has come up from the track - would fit with being a "small object" too.

There isn't a 168017.

I'm guessing the OP means 168217. If it is brought to Aylesbury tonight for a replacement windscreen I will find out.

Indeed, I was East Croydon In January when a Bedford bound 319 pulled in and was taken oos and headed back to Brighton with a cracked windscreen, an iceacle had fullen from a bridge or tunnel while the train was at speed.
