I for one will be disappointed if the 16:30 limited stop changes. I prefer the train and always plan for this as my return journey to get me home at a reasonable time. 20mins saved does make a difference

That's a point - does the deceleration of the 1630 mean that any 'last connections' to points further north in Scotland are now missed, that the current timing allows connection to?

Let's clear a few things up...

1. The 1633 when introduced used to be a Pendolino. The set used to work back to Euston as the 1958. Then when Virgin ramped up the Anglo Scot services it would run empty to Oxley. When there was a shortage of Pendolino sets Virgin would use the Birmingham standby voyager to work the 1633. Caused absolute carnage. Especially if Virgin said no to stop orders on the 1630 or 1640 services. Then the 1633 was extended to Blackpool. Unfortunately the service cannot be extended to 10 coaches. The fleet is stretched!!!

2. The 1630 is popular with passengers going to Preston. After that it's dead. And of course passengers don't listen. Many a time passengers have asked the guard what time they arrive into Lancaster, Carlisle etc. Only to be told that they're non stop to Glasgow with nothing left South but the sleepers.

3. Standardising the stopping pattern brings the service in line with all other services. Virgin done away with the 1030 Euston- Glasgow Royal Scot which was the premier crack express of the West Coast.

But again, the ticketing system breaks it - there are few if any Advances across VT and TPE.

Except for:

GLASGOW CEN/QST -> LONDON TERMIALS AP RUGBY
MOTHERWELL -> LONDON TERMIALS AP RUGBY
LOCKERBIE -> LONDON TERMIALS VTWC &CONNECTNS
CARLISLE -> LONDON TERMIALS VTWC &CONNECTNS
PENRITH -> LONDON TERMIALS VTWC &CONNECTNS
OXENHOLME LAKE D -> LONDON TERMIALS VTWC &CONNECTNS
LANCASTER -> LONDON TERMIALS VTWC &CONNECTNS
PRESTON LANCS -> LONDON TERMIALS VTWC &CONNECTNS

Same for tickets from the above origins to Crewe, Wolverhampton, Birmingham Stations...

Not a lot, really. If an HS2 service is faster than HEx plus faff time plus flight plus airlink bus, then it will gain passengers. If it's slower, it won't.

4 hours or 4h15 or 4h30 is neither here nor there - below 3 hours or thereabouts is the sweet spot (plus any time for Eurostar style security faff which will no doubt mar HS2).

Is there eurostar threatricals on the domestic HS1 trains? That would make them unworkable!

If you have to "check in" 30 minutes before a 40 minute journey then you can guarentee it will fail. It will be quicker to get the LM trains.

There again, from reading discussions on here it seems an extra hourly Liverpool train could have the greater need.

I got the 1807 EUS-Stafford-Crewe-Runcorn-Liverpoo today, felt very empty, maybe 1/3rd full in Standard. An anecdote of course, and probably a symptom of the lack of a "shoulder peak" on the WCML - it's nothing until 1857.

The stations presently served by InterCity-class trains or that would have been served by InterCity in BR days (basically VT on that route). That, in the case of Crewe to Carlisle, is every station except Euxton Balshaw Lane and Leyland.

There really should be a direct train from Euston to Euxton

What are the quotas like? And odd that Edinburgh is omitted.

Not on those, but HS2 IC is not necessarily the same thing.

Just because of the name? :)

I would doubt it. 20:38 -v- 21:00 won't make that much difference.

Aside from the West Highland line and the line from Perth to Inverness, which didn't have connections anyway, all of the other lines will still have a connection.
