All of a sudden I don't seem to be able to book tickets for traveling on my 16-25 Railcard before 10:00am whilst paying the £12 minimum fare.

For instance I'm looking at Wrexham General (WRX) - Birmingham New Street (BHM) on Monday 13/02/12. East Coast won't let me select the £12 fare. It only lets me pick the £14.50 fare.

So ok it's only £2.50 difference. Any ideas?

Not sure, it's doing the same for me but was happy to book me a £12 minimum fare return between Lincoln and Sheffield the other day.

Just tried the same ticket on the EMT Trainline based engine and it was happy to offer the minimum fare.

Doesn't help when my local booking office is going be closed for upwards of a week.

I'm probably missing something obvious, but couldn't you buy your discounted ticket on the train? (Well £12 very slightly discounted one so to speak ;) )

I know you can't usually, but as you'd effectively be boarding from an unstaffed station whilst the ticket office is closed, where else could a passenger buy a ticket for their journey, if they didn't have time etc to buy it somewhere else?

The £14.50 fare you cite is an Anytime Day Return, with 16-25 discount.

The Off Peak Day Return is valid after 0900, and priced £12.00 before 1000 and £10.05 thereafter.

Both of these tickets will be available from the station booking office or TVMs on the day of travel, or on the train if there are no purchasing facilities at the station.

Looks fine to me - see attached. Note as Lexyboy says, there are only two journeys that the CDR with minimum fare applied is appropriate for - leaving Wrexham at 09:00 and 09:42. Before 9am the cheapest fare is the Anytime Day Return at £14.50 and from 10am onwards it's the CDR with no minimum fare applied at £10.10.
