My son currently has a 16-17 Saver Railcard but will turn 18 in April.
As we understand it, he will no longer be able to use this the moment he turns 18 even though he bought it back in September so will only have 8 months use from it - he uses it to commute a couple of stops to college so it has already paid for itself many times over.
He is of the opinion that although he will not be able to use it to buy normal tickets (e.g. singles and day returns) once he turns 18, if he buys a monthly season ticket whilst he is 17 and apply the 16-17 Saver Railcard to obtain the discount, he may continue to use the monthly season ticket until it expires, which will be 2-3 weeks after he has turned 18. Is he correct?
Obviously I could do without him getting a criminal record within a few days of his 18th birthday.
