So what has been done to this unit and is the next one in the works

Also why remove tables?

I quite like the lack of a table there. If your a long legged fella like myself, those tables can be a right pain in the knee.

It also reminds me of the quads on a Pacer as well, so there may be some Stockholm Syndrome going on.

The new livery they've applied to it is rather tacky... Looks like it was designed by someone using Paint on Windows 98!

If they have removed one or more tables there are going to be some frustrated passengers who currently use them for their laptops.

But such people sometimes tend to spread onto the other side of the table as well, and if they sit in the aisle seat they make it difficult for someone else to get to the window seat. So not having a table could make things easier for others.

From what I could tell, 2 tables have been removed to make room for the wheelchair space in the Standard/First coach

One side is a bay of 4 where the table used to be (how many times have I sat at those tables to end up with no legroom due to the black things under the chairs) and the other side is now airline seating. Couldn't notice any other changes to the seating layouts in the other 2 coaches.

Minor changes in the other coaches. Priority seats have greater legroom than before, achieved by removing some luggage racks.

Don't like the "go faster teeth" at all. If they added some "blurring" decals, though, it would in my view look quite nice.

The yellow is probably unavoidable due to RVAR requirements, however I think it looks fine anyway.

I note the two seats facing onto the wheelchair space (as before) have been removed. This I guess adds circulation room, but surely the lack of anywhere for a companion to sit is a real negative?

Just wondering if there has been any official demonstration taken place to show it off ?

Nothing in the local press (was expecting some sort of press release story about the trains getting refreshed, but so far nothing)

But those new seat foams are quite hard (think Travelodge/Premier Inn style bed), hopefully they will soften up over time.

Have they removed all of the tables from all three coaches in this unit, or is it only a few tables that have been removed. ? Do the bays without tables now have a little ledge instead. ? I must say I do prefer having a table, it's easier to put your food and drink there.

Try reading the thread. Might answer your questions. Or shall I get a spoon.

Once again, good to see proper provision for wheelchairs, but bad to see it's being done by removing seats - as usual. This is not compatible with an increasingly crowded railway. Extra diesel units are urgently needed.

Indeed. But I'm also a little surprised at the way they've done their conversions - Remember, FTPE put the disabled area in their 185s deliberately next to the First Class area, with the intention of making passengers feel that little bit nicer / Most other operators put at least a seat for anyone travelling with a passenger in a wheelchair or pushchair - Do SWT not think the same?

Did they really? It was an idiotic idea that left effectively one bog for all of Standard, and the multipurpose area (as it is) well away from anywhere else it would be useful.

I have never seen such an appallingly poor train layout as the Class 185. The First Class should have been at the vehicle end either side of a dedicated door, in the manner of the Class 321s etc, and the multipurpose area/disabled bog at an inner vehicle end like it is on just about every other modern unit.

I agree we need more carriages, but until there's a way of harnessing the technology displayed in the TARDIS the alternative is we continue to treat wheelchair users as second-class citizens. If there's a slight decrease in seats to make room then that's fine by me.
