Was at Southampton Central this morning. A Salisbury-bound 158 in P3A was mated by a 159 from the St Denys direction and then ensemble left at 1044. Is this booked? Where does the 159 come from and go to please?

It is a booked working. When i was there last year it used to be two 158s that attached.one section comes from Romsey and the other from Portsmouth. The 158 from portsmouth used to do a stopper from Basingstoke to Southampton Central then a stopper to Portsmouth then a stopper back and then make the attachment. The reason i think for the attachment is to save an ecs move to Salisbury.I don't know what the diagram now its 159.

Cheers Matt! Must see if I can grab it Southampton to Portsmouth & back.

Is there still as Southampton - Waterloo 159 service? I used to catch a 2 x 159 mid-morning which made a pleasant change from the usual 442s.

Not that I know of.

My 2001 timetable shows an 1120 Salisbury - Waterloo via Winchester, calling at Romsey, Southampton Central, Eastleigh, Winchester, Basingstoke, Farnborough and Waterloo. Going the other way there was a 1015 Waterloo - Salisbury, with the same calling pattern in reverse.

The 2001 TT is, generally, better than the current one.
