Today on my travels coming back from Birmingham New Street, just approaching Cheltenham Spa and I saw what I believe to have been a 159. It was almost certainly a SWT unit any how, but I couldn't think why on earth it would be in the sidings at Cheltenham?

First Great Western have hired a unit from South West Trains on a day to day basis.
It works from Salisbury to Swindon in the early morning, spends most of the day on the Swindon to Cheltenham Spa line , goes to Bristol in the Evening , and then goes home to Salisbury on a Portsmouth working from Bristol T M
Thats how you saw it at Cheltenham , it will be hired for most of the summer. It is not always the same unit , because of maintenace etc .
The week before last I photographed two different units on hire during the week.

arent FGW having class 150's from London Midland In may 2010?

I have heard that production of the class 172's is to be delayed so i think they will be lucky to get a few class 150s by next may and i wouldnt be to surprised in the loco hauled diagram continues for another few months after next may especially as it is proving popular with commutors in Bristol.

Certainly not a 159,it would have been a 158.

tbh I wasn't paying attention but from what i've read now it would have been a 158. I was just sat on a 170 enjoying the tunes on my ipod and saw it in the corner of my eye lol.

That reminds me, I saw a SWT liveried unit as I was leaving Gloucester the other day, rather confused me but I soon forgot about it.
