Like what? Maybe if you live in Yorkshire you are lucky enough to get a Northern liveried 156 but up here in the North East, Northern Spirit/Arriva liveried 142's and 156's and the 158's that have been moved here that are still in various liveries. I travel a hell of a lot around the NE and have never been in a Northern liveried train yet.
Speaking of the 142's, they have sent back the best looking one they had in First North Western livery. It passed me at Northallerton last week heading south.

There's a huge mish-mash of 158s around at the moment, especially on the Hull-Scarborough line it seems. The pink and silver ex-Wessex 158s have been out and about quite a bit, and an ex-Arriva 158 (in Central livery!). This one still plays Arriva's automatic safety announcement too

The newly liveried Northern 158s have been around, as well as FNW Gold Star ones and WYPTE ones too! In some respects the livery problem is actually getting worse

And I'm sure if Northern embarked on a major re-liverying exercise, somebody would start complaining about them wasting money! The ex CT liveried 158s are now being dealt with, though I doubt they'll be finished before the next 11 arrive from FGW in December, all of which carry Wessex Trains colours.

The interior in (I think) all WYPTE 158s is absolutely disgusting! No padding in the seats, thread-bare coverings, filthy carpets and even tables missing in many of the table seats! Thankfully these awful units are soon to be refurbished, which will probably see the end of the Metro livery on 158s in a similar fashion to the 155s.

Meanwhile, inside, the FNW ones are much better, and the newly refurbished ones are particularly nice

Yes I agree with the interior comment Max, but I was referring to the actual livery! :toothy8:

I'm still not sure if I'm keen on the new Northern livery on the 158s. The cab ends are too yellow and the front skirt should be yellow to match, not grey.

I'm not really a fan of all this advertising on the sides of trains either!

Not likely considering Northern is finally repainting its 158's at quite a fast speed and is refurbishing them too so no doubt when northern gets them they will take SWT's logos off, put theirs on and send em for refurb a bit later....:razz:

Bit of trivia: the 158s up here in Scotland have a grand total of 4 liveries: Alphaline, FSR, old SR and SWT.

Saw Alphaline 158782 (I think that's the number) at Perth yesterday and at Edinburgh Waverly today.

Are there more alphaline ones on first scotrail or is this unit the only one?

Also, on my fotopic site I have some pix of the SWT liveried 158s in the Perth collection, working some kind of ECS. Does anyone have any details of what the workings were, so I can update the site?

On 2 April 2007, I went to Manchester for the day. At Oxford Road station on the way home, a Northern (ex-TP) (supposed to be Central Trains) came in - not a Central Trains logo in sight! I almost didn't catch this train. Luckily, the guard said it was the Chesterfield train, but if I hadn't thought to ask the guard (and I almost didn't) I wouldn't have got home in time for dinner!
