Possibly yeah. NL is busy on 158s which is why other work like 153 bogie swaps are going to Heaton and NH is at capacity with day to day work

How thorough are these latest 142 refurbs? Even though they've only 7 years of life left in them, would be nice to see the 142s upgraded to at least the level of the 144s (with decent high-backed seating for one thing). Anything would be better than the terrible 'Northern Spirit' refurbished examples with their cheap and nasty seats that began to fall apart within weeks of being installed!

wow ex Northern Spirit/Atn 156s being refurbished.. great news (don't I feel old for remembering the former)

Northern can't make the windows of their 156s even see through, what hope for a clean train, let alone a refurbished one? Please Northern leave us and let someone else run the services. I didn't like Arriva, but the trains were clean and they painted stations - hideous colours, but fresh paint and washing seemed to work!

Heaton seem to keep the 142s windows clean but the 156s are fitted with brake dust brown glass, not at all fetching. The glass colour makes even the Northern livery look attractive, if you can see it beneath the grime.

Hmm, the refurb makes the 142's look quite smart, I wonder what the 156's will look like? I'm hoping for something on par with EMT's recent refurb.

Yeah, that's one of the invaders from FGW I think. It's okay (though still worse than the normal ones!) on a quiet train because you can stretch out on one of the big benches but as soon as it's a bit busy it's horrible as the only people I've ever seen be able to sit 3+2 astride are primary school kids!

Not to mention in winter, the only heat seems to come from the ends via the pink/purple fittings but only near the ends. Is it piped water or something, I've always wondered?

They're not the worst pacer seats but they're not really the best.
At least we have some semi decentish pacers
