Has anyone been on 142039 recently, I travelled aboard it on Thursday and one half was shut off with water pouring into it. I was wondering if anyone's seen it in service recently or if it's been confined to Newton Heath for a few days while it's fixed?

It was in service on Friday in the Manchester area, so not confined to depot.

apparently the radiator located in the heat exchanger pod had been defective thus causing the leakage. A new one was fitted and the unit was running about in tandem with 142052 on Friday afternoon out of Piccadilly

The 156 I had this morning suffered from a serious leak in the cab during a tropical downpour......and that was with the windows closed as well.

A 144 (023 in fact) was letting on water quicker than a sinking ship yesterday morning...it was coming out of gaps in the wall panels, parts of the roof, the bellows between coaches and the back cab was quickly turning into a lake!

That poor unit hasn't had a smooth couple of months! It caught fire a few months ago!

Shame it didn't have the water problems then.

Interesting - I had forgotten that. In that case then, it is currently running around as a 2 car set!

It's not only Northern units (nor only pacers) that suffer from leaks- I had a 314 yesterday (Sat) evening from Central to Paisley Gilmour Street which had a couple of places at the inner-end of one of the driving cars where drips were coming in. A couple of people had inventively placed empty cardboard coffee cups beneath the leaks!
