Interesting.. well worth doing though - LED's last so much longer so it should lower the amount of bulbs needing replacing a fair amount if they roll it out across the rest of the fleet!

Replacing every bulb on a Pacer with a LED equivalent...

Would that give an extra 250 Watts of "ooomph" to the engine?

iirc LED headlights for the most part last longer than normal bulbs, and use less energy despite offering equal or better visibility

Sorry but I have to say it.

No it's an Arriva isn't it?

There is very much a move to replace the old BR standard lighting units with these LED style replacements, so it was only a matter of time before Pacers got it. Since it's a straight replacement of the light module it must be pretty cheap, more so as being a standard componant there are big economies of scale, yet the savings are high, not only on replacement lights but also delays due to failures. Pretty much all the Sprinters and EMUs now have the LED replacements, now it's the Pacers turn. Locos I expect will get them too in the near future, if they aren't already, (early 66s, late 59s, 60s etc).

Northern have already fitted the refurbished class 144s with LED lighting units. I'm not sure about their 142s though.

Had 142002 yesterday to Cheltenham Spa! Looked good! Definitely need to get them fitted to the rest of the fleet

None of the Northern 142s have the new style light clusters. The only Northern DMUs to have them are the 144s, ex-ATN 150/2s and ex-NW 156s along with most of the 153s although a few of these still have the old bulb clusters. Northern are currently modifying the 142s to enable the 'day' headlight to be used.

Shame they have only done the one end though, it looks a lot better and makes the unit look so much newer than with the old lights!

It's suprising how dull and generally naff the previous light clusters look now, with the LED replacements now being widespread. Also suprising that not everybody has fitted them fleet-wide, despite the obvious advantages and presumably a relatively low overall cost. Definitely a big improvement on any unit!
