142 at Kings Norton

At around 1-ish today I saw 142029 (FGW livery) heading northbound just south of Kings Norton, presumably heading back to Northern?

A minute or so later at Northfield saw the NMT (43013+43014) heading north as well

Quite an unusual journey

It was on an Exeter - Heaton (Newcastle) ECS move for a C6 exam, it should then move onto Newton Heath for a repaint into northern colours in around 10 days time

Worked the 09.23 Exmouth - Paignton with 153 318 as far as Exeter St Davids where it was swapped with 142 001.

Out of curiosity, how long does it take to do a paint job on a 142?

Depends on how gooder job you want to do...

If you grab a tin of dulux and slap it on, a day...

If you flat it, fill it, build primer it, flat it, paint it, clear coat it (vandal proofing), and re-flat it, then glaze it, a couple of weeks. While the're at it, they could paint up the chassis rails in stonechip or 2pac Nylon paint.

Out of interest does anyone know which company's driver/s worked this train as FGW don't go further north than Cheltenham ? , LM don't do 142s and Northern don't go any where near Cheltenham. Guessing it would be GBRf or WCRC or similar unless route conductors were used.

Probably quicker than it'd take to drive one all the way from Exeter to Newcastle. Shame they didn't sell tickets; some of the "veg" on here would have loved that...
