I see from the GA twitter feed this was service was today formed of 2 coaches. Is this correct or a typo? If true, it can't be very often that a (I guess) 156 makes it down to Liverpool Street!
Was it helicoptered in then?170272 stood in, believe it only did the one trip
Was it helicoptered in then?![]()
Was a 90 set not available?
In the past I've known Norwich to Liverpool Street to be run by an EMU, but quite some time for a DMU, especially so small.
Love to know how busy it was.
Obviously not set was available, even then this is a rare thing. No Norwich crews sign any EMUs so if, as it was, a failure at Norwich and there is no set then a 170 is the next "best" thing. Not sure if they knocked some stops out of it, that can happen when 170s get used.
That's why pre-planned they are booked for the diagram starting 06:25 ex-Lst as fit perfectly with London/Ipswich drivers. Ilford/Colchester/Clacton don't route sign Norwich & Norwich drivers don't sign EMUs.To be fair it's going back a long while, but I remember EMU's making it to Norwich in the later days of NXEA, but I guess they were worked by non Norwich crews.
Wasn't uncommon for this kind of delay to happen as described above when they ran 2 car DMUs from London to Lowestoft during the NXEA days, the last train before peak was booked as a 3 car but often would be a 2.
I guess Norwich drivers will have to sign EMUs soon since they won't have an alternative of a 170 after the new stock arrives?

Sorry, two brain fades in two days, I'm losing it here
I was just thinking that some crews ideally would be trained on the 720s to fill in for the Norwich Flirts if need-be since we're only getting 10 Norwich Flirts and if a couple of them go tech at any one time we're going to have to substitute something in, which is not beyond the realms pf possibility for a new fleet and being the first of their type in the UK.
Or will they send the local FLIRTS instead?
Possibly the latter & all depends on what is agreed with the unions. You can't just select who you do & don't train on particular traction. That was the whole reason 90s where never employed earlier on the GEML as BR only wanted a selection of them trained as too tight/poor to pay for it.
I know we're somewhat straying into the territory of another thread about the new fleet but are you guys all aware that the plan is to run every 3rd service or so to Norwich as a 720? So I think the Norwich mainline drivers will most likely be trained on the 720s unless there's some other arrangement but I'm not familiar with what the specifics of driver diagrams will be.
It's no different to the situation at Ipswich for the last decade or more. Class 360s arrive hourly with extras in the peak but no Ipswich/Liverpool St or any ex-Anglia drivers sign them.
