14.24 Crianlarich - Mallaig

Please can anyone tell me why the 14.24 to Mallaig says it’s delayed on National Rail live trains, but the Oban train says it’s on time when they are joined until Crianlarich? I’m waiting for the Mallaig train.

Looks to be running 4 minutes late, and an extra 4 minutes delay to be incurred during splitting, so around 8 minutes delay from Crianlarich onwards. May make up some time, but may also lose some.

I concur. Next stop after Crianlarich (for the Mallaig portion) is Upper Tyndrum and the train in question is looking like it *might* be 5 minutes or so down when calling there (late) at around 1440.

Presumably the system can't handle both the Oban and Mallaig portions being the same train. So it treats one as a through train and the other as starting at Crianlarich. So it shows the "through" train as being delayed, but can't process the portion which "starts" at Crianlarich as being delayed until it reaches departure time and the train isn't there.

That’s seems a bit odd, because effectively the Oban portion is the “forming train” for the Mallaig, and RTT can cope fine with estimating departure times for trains where the forming service is late

The Oban train was showing on time because it was assuming it didn't need the long dwell at Crianlarich. In reality it does need the long dwell at Crianlarich (for the detachment), and was actually also delayed.

Looks like the Mallaig portion is running about 11-12 minutes down having just left Spean Bridge, next stop Fort William, where the train reverses. The Oban portion arrived some 8 minutes late.
