I think that they might have said no, mainly because virgin wanted in cab signalling instead of lineside which they have at the moment

I thought that was the reason why they couldn't got 140mph? and 135mph was the fastest they could go without In-Cab signaling?

Yeah it would be good, the Trent Valley should definitely be able to take it and maybe some stretches south of Rugby. Rugby would be fun to go through at that speed .

125 is the maximum permitted with lineside signalling.

Also the track geometry was only installed for 125 running.
