Today at Ely I saw a 156 operating this service, has this always been a 156?

Not sure weather this is a regular but I know that 156s can occasionally pop up on this route. I had a 156 from Nottingham - Sheffield a while back and it was on a Norwich - Liverpool service.

Booked 158 but can be a 156 or if you're really unlucky a 153!

Not sure if it has any bearing on the use of a 156 on this service but there were signalling problems around Stockport & the 158 working 1R62 05.50 ex-Norwich struck a tree near Wymondham causing a fuel leak. Train went forward around 25 late to Ely on one engine.

The 1152 Liverpool - Norwich was being worked by 156415 yesterday, at least when I saw it at Levenshume it was.

Sounds right as that would have been 1R62s return working.

There were a few 158s on Nottingham Eastcroft yesterday (more than usual for that time) so they may be having a few problems. I've seen a lot of 156s on Skegness runs recently too, and most of these are (or at least were, and i've not heard of any changes) booked 158. 156401 also visited Liverpool yesterday on the 0640 from Nottingham, but it was paired with 158799 and detached at Nottingham on the return journey.

156s don't have a big problem with maintaining time on Liverpool to Norwich runs as much of the route is 75mph or less, and on the flat a 156 can get over 75mph anyway (although probably not recommended these days with OTMR). Even the ECML section isn't that fast as most trains run on the slow lines which I think are 75mph anyway, plus I don't think 158s can climb Stoke Bank flat out anyway even on the fasts.
