I am planning on catching this service next week from Carlisle to Hexham on a Northern £10 ranger, out of interest is this service booked for a class 142 or a class 156. I know it could be either but I seem to think when ive seen this service before its been a class 142.

cheers

Diagrammed to be a 156 barring any issues (like today when it failed at Hexham on the inbound for example)...

There are a lot of 142's on that route though. Very rarely have I seen 156's on platforms 5 and 6 at Carlisle. All 142's, 158's and 153s on the Leeds and Newcastle services

Only usual 142 diagrams out of Carlisle are the 1028 and 1134 to Newcastle. Occasionally, moreso on a Friday, the 1330+1728 services to Newcastle can also be a pacer.

All services to Leeds are booked to be 158, apart from the 0550 and 1155 to Leeds which are booked for the same 158+153 combo, the 158 then returning on its own for the 1818 departure.

Last 142 on the service to Leeds was well over a year ago and is at most an annual occurrence. Of course these things can change with unit failures/requirements elsewhere

156s just about all the time on the Carlisle - Middlesbrough train and the corresponding Middlesbrough - Carlisle through service.

70% of the time it is a 142 with the rest 156s, not including the ones where Scotrail 156s are used.
