Just a quick query; Would I be right thinking that to try to get the best prices for Manchester to London on Friday 26th July, returning next day this Friday is when they go on sale?

Advance tickets on that route for the week starting 14th July have not been released so I doubt it, but keep checking.

Advance tickets for weekend travel is typically released later than that, when arrangements for engineering works are finalised.

The best page to check is http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/ticket_types/44703.aspx as it tells you when the cheap single Advances are available until!
