Over the last two or three weeks on a couple of occasions I have seen from my lounge viewpoint of the SW main line a couple of 12 carriage (3 unit) 450's.

I'm not sure if they were ECS movements or not but I am sure 12 carriage formations are fairly unusual down here (between New Milton and Sway).

I am used to seeing various 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 carriage 450/444 combinations and the odd unit or two of class 455 but not 12 carriage 450's before now.

Is this special working or the lengthening certain trains on certain diagrams?

As of the new timetable there have been a lot more 12-car 450s used in the off-peak, I'm not sure of the diagrams but it's quite possible that there could be some Poole service formed of 12-car 450s.

12 car workings are quite common, particularly on the Portsmouth to Waterloo corridor.

I've only ever known 8 car workings on the Poole route, but who says there can't be 12 car?
