I find it odd that at a time when there are record numbers of people not travelling there are now several daily diagrams of 12 car formation 450's running about. I haven't looked to see what trains they are on but noticed at least three today on the Brockenhurst/Bournemouth stretch of line from my self isolating armchair

Train lengths need to be maxed out to allow the best opportunity for social distancing.

If it's one person per coach, great.

They might be lightly loaded by the time they reach the New Forest, but they might have been busier when they departed London.

Very unlikely. Before the full lockdown a peak time train had less passengers on it than a service along the Netley line, seems that those working in London are more able to work from home than those in major metropolitan areas. Would imagine it’s similarly busy on services across areas such as Manchester and Birmingham. Worth mentioning too that the service is effectively the strike timetable dusted off, designed to provide as much peak time capacity.

The further people are away from each other the better, something all of us across the industry have been calling for. Its common sense from the operators.
