There has been a (new?) Loram Rail Grinder Unit down there recently, I wonder if this could be its return trip to Derby hauled by a DCR loco?

Spot on Mr Bridge. Had to drop my son off for football in Bow so I went up to Okehampton for a coffee and to see it.
Wouldn't have known anything about it if it wasn't for reading about it on here :).

Nice picture Mr C, weather looks nice down there in Okehampton, presume the 31 was enroute to Meldon to collect the unit when you saw it then? is that 31452 by the way?

Edit: Just seen your other shot.

I got chatting to a guy who was involved in 47828 and who also seemed to be in charge of the movement arriving today (he'd liaised with Crediton box when the 31 was on its way). He told me that he'd moved the rail grinder nearer to the station so that they wouldn't have had to run to Meldon to run around it. It was just around the corner after the signal box waiting when the loco arrived, they were changing ends on the 31 but unfortunately I had to get going to pick the young Ronaldo up. ;)

Saw it Light engine and with the rail grinder! Was a nice sound on the way back!

Someone in the pub earlier commented to me that possibly the oldest diesel locomotive currently operating on the main line is hauling among the newest rolling stock!

Gosh! I don't think I've ever seen a 31 moving as quickly as in your footage there, even with the Rail Grinder in tow it didn't seem to be hanging around.

It was moving rather quick! Accelerated rather quickly as well as it got stopped in a loop two miles up the line!!

Wouldn't that really be the GBRf / HNRC 20s on the S Stock moves though? With the Peds coming a close second?
