11 Car Pendolinos - empty pantograph well?

Does anyone know why on the 11 car Pendos Alstom have used an extra carriage that has an empty pantograph position? Bit odd

I think it is because it has a transformer (or some other big piece of equipment) on it like the other pantograph coaches, in fact it is exactly the same mechanically as the other pantograph coaches except for the actual pantograph.

As I understand it, the extra coaches required the train to have three transformers to feed the motors. All three are fed from the one pantograph via the roof- but whilst there's no need for a third pantograph, the structure of the transformer coach was set up to have the well. Why it can't have a fairing I've no idea...

Presumably because fairings cost money and have no real operational advantage.

Thank you for the replies. Agree, a bit of extra bodywork wouldn't go amiss on the empty panto area. Makes the train look unfinished.

As 455driver mentioned a few posts ago, it isn't actually an empty area, it contains all the same stuff as the other 'wells' except for the actual pantograph.

More seriously, presumably a pantograph could be fitted in future if the vehicle was required for some other purpose ?, for example to make a larger fleet of shorter trains, rather a similar size fleet of longer trains.
