I'm confused.
According to TFL the 11-15 Zip Oyster zone 1-3 off peak daily cap is £1.50 and peak is £3.80, and a zone 1-4 daily cap is £1.50 off peak and £4.65 peak, but a zone 1-4 travelcard is £6 for peak or off peak.
Under what circumstance would one ever buy a travelcard with a zip oyster card for these zones? It seems it is always more expensive?

Do you require a zip card to get the £6 paper product? If the only requirement is to be between 11 and 15 then it makes a good deal of sense for a one off visitor, since the zip cards have to be ordered a week in advance, and even with the young discount on a normal oyster you have to pay the £5 deposit.

A one day travelcard is only issued on paper so the only time a zip card holder would want one would be to spend the day within the system train spotting.

Do you require a zip card to get the £6 paper product?
There are pages on the TfL website that imply that a zip card is necessary to obtain child fares for 11 to 15 year olds but the single fare finder is clear that this isn't the case for cash fares. For a more mature looking young person some form of id might be prudent of course.
