10/9: PUT at New Cross Gate

The day following the incident at East Croydon, a number of trains have been delayed/Cancelled between London Bridge/Surrey Quays and Crystal Palace/West Croydon/East Croydon as a person has been hit at New Cross Gate.
Just passed the site and it appears to be a 2 car 171 (possibly 171730) on the fast down line.


Currently on the delayed 1157 (from NWD) London Overground service. Looks as if many ELL southbound services to Crystal Palace and West Croydon are being taken out of service at Surrey Quays.

Unfortunately, it appears 171 in question was involved in a fatal incident at 1112 whilst working 1E25, the 1108 London Bridge - Uckfield. Platforms 4 & 5 are now open so some Northbound services are no longer diverted.

Update: As of approx. 1356, all lines have now reopened at New Cross Gate. The incident train was moved at 1301.

Hopefully not quite as critical location as yesterdays incident. Sympathies for the driver involved in this incident and indeed the other ones in the last fortnight on the Southern network. I understand the Samaritans were at East Croydon this morning, does this kind of event encourage others to do it as well?

Just passed the site and it appears to be a 2 car 171 (possibly 171730) on the fast down line.

As of 1700, 171730 is on depot, so it could be that one.

It was boxing promoter/cornerman Dean Powell who sadly took his own life at New Cross Gate.

My thoughts go out to everybody involved.
