I noticed this new virgin service for Fridays only in the new timetables, just wondered what is used to work this, is it a pendolino/pretendolino or double or single voyager? And whats it purpose for running on just Fridays only? I would like to think its testing the route and paths for any new upcoming Blackpool services. :)

Why ever would they need to 'test' the route and paths using a passenger train - assuming this is to run regulalrly? That's what they have planners and timetabling software for...

It's far more likely that the primary purpose is to strengthen the Friday afternoon northbound capacity, and the up service is just a knock on benefit by bringing what would otherwise be a long distance ECS into passenger service...

Single Voyager I believe. Runs as a relief (afaik) as Friday Glasgow-Euston trains can be very busy. It's not a practice run for Blackpool, it's existed far too long, a good couple of years now at least. Also of note is that it runs via Alsager, Stoke and Hixon, not Madeley.

The stock that forms the service leaves Central Rivers at 0637 :shock :

Full diagram seems to be:

5P76 0630 Central Rivers to Preston 0929
1A76 0949 Preston to London Euston 1230
5A76 1336 London Euston to Euston Shed 1341
5S93 1545 Euston Shed to London Euston 1550
(couples to another unit from Birmingham)
9S93 1643 London Euston to Edinburgh Waverley 2218
5S93 2238 Edinburgh Waverley to Polmadie 0041

(The reason for the long wait at Euston between 1230 and 1336 is that a Pendo to/from Manchester is booked to terminate in the same platform in front of it.)

Was 1036 due 1259, non stop from Warrington, for the last few years. Didn't know about the routing via Alsager - from the deceleration I assume that's new?

If it waits at Euston because a Manchester Pendolino waits in front, which platforms can handle possibly 14 or 16 carriages in a platform.

Assume a 9 or 11 car 390 & 5 Car 221

1, 2 and 15 by the looks of things could all handle an 11-car 390 and a 221. If it was a 9-car 390 then 3, 4 and 16 would be OK too.
