09:30 departure with ENCTS pass.

I was in Keswick last week travelling to Kendal and there is a departure on service 555 at 09:30 but I wasn't sure whether the pass is only valid AFTER 09:30 and maybe I should have got on at the next stop but I didn't know the route out of Keswick. Anyway the driver let me board and sit down at 09:25 and called me back to the front to pay once his ticket machine began to accept ENCTS passes a couple of minutes later. This meant I could make a drop off in Ambleside for a coffee on this long trip, which was excellent but not one I like to drive.

Is this normal procedure or will some companies insist the pass is NOT valid at a departure timed exactly 09:30?

Normally not valid before 9.30 a.m. or after 11.00 p.m. (Mon-Fri) although these times do vary from area to area.

The .gov.uk page strongly suggests that the pass is valid at exactly 09.30, although it does not say so explicitly. It states that before 09.30 is a discretionary option for councils, which to me reads as though 09.30 is not an option, but part of the scheme.

I think we discussed this on this forum recently but most machines allow a few minutes grace specifically to cope with 930 departures which would otherwise leave late if people had to board exactly at the departure time.

We did discuss this on a previous page. All trentbarton / Kinchbus ticketer machines are set to accept concessions from 09:25.

Nottingham City disabled concessions are also able to travel in the city boundary area before 930 and after 2300 - though this can sometimes see holders trying to travel beyond these borders.

Back in the day when trentbarton had the mango cards I was getting a 0900 service. We were aloud to take a seat and just before the bus left at 0900 went up to tap on so we could get the daily cap.
