08 on ECS at Paddington

Passing through Paddington noticed what looked like an 08 radiator in Platform one country end. Had to investigate further and found 08.483 coupled to the night Riviera sock for the ECS trip. always thought this was diagramd for a 57

I think the 08 does the shunt from OOC to PAD. It certainly doesn't do the whole trip!!

indeed the shunt is normally completed by a 57, except when no 57 is available 08 covers. Assuming the other 57s are broken or otherwise engaged!

I stand corrected. I thought the 08 always did the shunt.

Which usually ends up with that 57 Working the next Night Rivera i believe - a pretty neat swap systems...Unless the 57 is er..b*ggerd!

It was an 08 (08483) last friday (12th). Apparently they've been struggling for serviceable 57s recently and have had to hire-in from Virgin a couple of times, I think a hired 47 nearly ran in at some point last week!

I believe they had issues with faulty replacement wheelsets! Not that rare for ECS to be an 08 from OOC.

Yep - Virgins 57309 was the usual hire in again, with Colas Rails 47749 Reported to have been on the way to work a Night Rivera when a 57 was brought back to life (Dam! The times when you don't want the 57s to work:roll:)
