08:00 Kings Cross to Edinburgh

I need to go up to Edinburgh later this week and am thinking of travelling on the fast 08:00 EC service.

In terms of First Class service, I'm sure I'll be offered breakfast on departure but am I likely to get anything else after that bearing in mind the service arrives into Edinburgh at lunchtime? What time do EC start serving alcoholic drinks?

Although it doesn't answer your question, if you want a drink on the train take your own on... Never too early to drink though on a train, I will be as soon as my lecture is done at Uni

Although I have caught this service more than half a dozen times this year, I've only once gone further than York and that was on a weekend.

According to the booklets after breakfast you should be served from the Mid Morning menu but might not make the "All Day" (:roll menu. The timetable would suggest this too; breakfast is shown to be served from NCL but nothing from Berwick.

If you took the 09:00 you should be served both.

I reality I've found these to be very rough guides and usually wrong (often for the better ) but in general (to me) EC always seem more generous than VT.

According to Virgin Trains' website under 18s are allowed alcohol at breakfast.

Hot Fairtrade tea and coffee.
Chilled soft drinks and juice.
Alcohol for customers aged over 18 (except at breakfast).

My earliest is 10:30, just enjoying a bottle as we speak on a service into Manchester Oxford Road. What makes me laugh is the buzz people get when they think its illegal and when you tell them its legal to drink on trains they are surprised!

Not quite driving, but...

A Dundee train conductor who was over the legal alcohol limit while responsible for passengers on a train at Dundee Station was left on the platform when the train departed.
