Hi all,

My brother is looking for the 07:00 fast train from MAN to EUS on Monday 15th February 2016. Checking on the VTWC and NRE sites, this service seems to have disappeared from the 15th February onwards. It is still available for the previous weekday (Friday 12th), but not on or beyond the 15th February!

So, a couple of things:

1. Is this an error or has the service been removed from the timetable?
2. If the latter, where does that leave people with advance tickets for that service?
3. If it has been removed from the timetable, why has it?! It's the fastest train of the day between MAN and EUS!

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

If the train you have booked does not run, get the next train, and claim Delay Repay if you arrive 30+ mins late.

Or, if arrival time is crucial, get the preceding train.

I already tweeted them haha, they're looking into it!

Edit: The cancellation is correct due to "engineering work" - so I would take your pick of Yorkie's 2 suggestions for option 2 (although would Delay Repay be in place when there is a "revised timetable" such as this?), 1 is no, and 2 is: "The works are between Sandbach and Cheadle Hulme until 19th February, and Sandbach and Alderley from 20th"

If it can be proved that the train was scheduled to run when the ticket was bought, and that the passenger intended to use it (a reservation would be good for that), I'd say delay compensation would be applicable.

Anyone who hasn't already bought a ticket would be on iffy grounds, though depending on any published timetable literature they might show discretion and pay out.

As the ticket has already been purchased by the OP's brother, there is of course no doubt in these circumstances.

The 0700 is due in at 0900, so if the 0715 arrives at or after 0930, Delay Repay would apply. Today it arrived 3 minutes early, at 0921, so Delay Repay would not apply.

I'm not sure that the OP's brother has in fact purchased a ticket for this train. I may be wrong though? Can the OP confirm one way or t'other. Cheers. (Notwithstanding the fact that Yorkie's advice still stands for any person who has pre purchased tickets prior to a temporary timetable change. ;))

The original post definitely said the OP's brother had purchased a ticket, however I agree that it now looks like maybe he didn't ;)

Rather more significant than the cancellation of a single train, I'm afraid:

(13-19 Feb 2016)
Engineering work is taking place between Wilmslow and Crewe closing the lines.

Arriva Trains Wales services between Manchester Piccadilly and Cardiff Central/Carmarthen/Milford Haven.will be diverted via Warrington Bank Quay and will start from/terminate at Manchester Oxford Road. Train services will also be unable to call at Stockport and Wilmslow.

CrossCountry services between Manchester Piccadilly and Bristol Temple Meads/Bournemouth will be diverted via Macclesfield and Stoke-on-Trent not calling at Wilmslow or Crewe. Journey times will remain unaffected. replacement buses will operate between Stockport, Wilmslow and Crewe.

Northern Rail services between Manchester Piccadilly and Alderley Edge/Crewe (via Manchester Airport) will start from/terminate at Wilmslow/Alderley Edge and trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe (via Stockport) will start from/terminate at Stockport/Alderley Edge. Replacement buses will operate between Stockport/Wilmslow and Alderley Edge/Crewe. Services from Manchester Piccadilly to Stoke-on-Trent will depart earlier than normal, calling additionally at Levenshulme and Heaton Chapel. Trains from Stoke-on-Trent to Manchester Piccadilly will run as booked.

Virgin Trains services between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston will be diverted and unable to call at Wilmslow. On Saturday and Sunday, replacement buses between operate between Wilmslow and Macclesfield and from Monday to Friday between Wilmslow and Macclesfield/ Crewe

This doesn't actually explain the specific cancellation of the 0700 MAN-EUS, but presumably there is no path via Macclesfield.
Nor does it mention the impact at Crewe.
The xx55 MAN-EUS and xx40 back are running via (and stopping at) Stoke, according to RTT.
