Hello,

I wonder if I could rack your brains, I am looking for more information about the following.
I am trying to identify the sleeper/bearers in the pictures below, I am under the impression that they are 001E concrete Bearers, someone else has mentioned that he doesn't know what they are but he was on the job when they were installed and he thinks they were bearers that were pre drilled especially for that type of baseplate.
Has anyone got any more info on this type of sleeper or a catalogue or other technical info as nobody can seem to identify them.

ps sorry about the lack of pics I was sent them.

They are pre drilled to hold Schwihag bolt less UIC 33 baseplates. This is a great system that holds the check rail without having to be drilled.

They are Type S concrete bearers. There is a general arrangement REPW drawing available for either vertical or inclined rail. You can see from the pictures this curve has been gauge widened - 53 on top of the Schwihag BCR baseplate denotes flange way.

Big ask but don’t suppose you have the drawing or know where to get it?

They are in Network Rail Standards NR/L3/TRK/2049 Module 4 or REPW drawing No. 761

Both are copyrighted so shouldn't be distributed.

If you work for a railway design/construction organisation then you should have access to a whole suite of standards.

Both track gauge and flangeway. Gauge widening is achieved by moving the inner rail away from the track centre line. Flangeway is increased by same amount to ensure the check gauge is achieved.

When would you use this arrangement for check rails instead of NR56 check? Is the latter for short bits immediately adjacent S&C (On special bearers?) and the former for longer lengths of purely plain line? Presumably the BCR baseplates have more adjustability for gauge and flangeway widening, hence there use in the example above?

On recent renewals the CEN33 check rail with BCR baseplates has been used in both of the situation above as it's easier to maintain. When the check rail wears shims can be used between baseplate an rail to restore check gauge. There are special fishplates to join the CEN33 check rail to CEN56 check rail if needed for example at the interface with S&C.
