digital screens and automated announcements wrongly timed

“Please stand behind the yellow line when the train comes into the platform, & let the passengers off first … use all avaialable doors down the whole train” MEANWHILE … The train was already in the platform, with all its’ doors open & had been so for at least a minute. Victoria line...

    Consumption of Alcohol on trains

The real problem is for people carrying bottles of wine as presents - then finding that their train is "banned" because it is going to be half-full of moronic football thugs - which, of course, they diodn't know about when they booked their tickets a couple of months previously. It can be a...

    Transport Investigations - QUERY

But I know they do survey (counting, usually) work, though whether they are acting as agents, or directly for a client, I know not ... They've sent people along to help other companies involved in passenger-counts, as I know for certain. Or is that jsut a sideline?

    RHTT Incient Fiskerton 26/11/2012

And even a serious SPAD may not be any fault of the driver. The case on SE last year (?) where the sander-boxws hadn't been filled [ Someone else's job ] & the train slid for 3+ miles ( Stongate ) comes to mind. Oops, as the saying goes.

    Transport Investigations - QUERY

"Transport Investigations" Has anyone know anything about them? They do do survey work, I bleieve, but they also seem to act as agents, persecuting people who have made mistakes with the unbelievably complex ticketing systems we have now ... OR ... so it appears from web-comments that I have...

Railway company fined over tresspasser death

As the law stands, this was the "correct" judgement. Unfortunately. In France (NOT the HS TGV lines) there are no fences outside bult-up areas. You know the risk - you take the risk.

    Most change-heavy journey

Once, when there was a strike ... Walthamstow Central - Liverpool St Walk to Cannon ST Cannon St - London Bdg London Bdg - Waterloo East Waterloo - CJn C Jn - Kenny O ( for GBBF @ Olympia!)

    London Victoria Station Closed 12/11

tsr So you are saying, that in spite of their normal policy of bombarding passengers with loud "announcements" every 15 seconds, LUL... a] Hadn't a clue & b] Didn't say a thing. especially anything useful. Why am I not suprised?

    HS3: Glasgow to Edinburgh?

ONLY point of this is if you extend it from Dunedin to Berwick & Newcastle, it becomes worthwhile. The ECML is great APART from the twiddles @ Cockburnspath & the ridiculous curve @ Morpeth

    Refusal to Travel

Given that I have been on a GOBLIN service, 64 seats in the coach & with 167 people actually IN the coach, this is utter nonsesnse. Someone, somewhere, was being a real, petty, spiteful jobsworth. My guess, & it is only a guess, is that EMT had erm, "deposited", on their staff, & this was...

    Destination screens: Anybody do better?

    When Trains change platforms!

A lot of this sort of thing is Notwonk Fail's fault - they employ the signallers, after all. It happens a LOT at Paddington, where the game of "musical platforms" is a constant source of amusement (or not, if you miss your train!)

    East Coast vs Grand Central

Only used GC once - but I was very impressed. Of course the "main" East Coast operator is at a considerable disadvantage, after the failure-of-franchise fiasco. A sad come-down for a great railway line, in fact.

    What would you have saved?

Two that very nearly made it. The last "Claud Hamilton" - I have one of it's gauge-glasses, yet to this day! And a "Sandringham"

New automatic ticket gates at King’s Cross

There should NOT be barriers of this sort at major long-distance termini. What does one do about meeters / greeters / senders off / auntie Ethel? Doesn't bother me - I've got a London over-60 pass, but it's the principle of the thing.

    favourite shed

Desiesels? PAH! Startford in 1960-61 What a smokey hole! Rows and rows and rows of engines. Much nicer than the olympic rip-off that's there now. I always liked Camden and Norwood Junction - the people there were friendly if you had a camera ....
